DKPP Will Examine the Chairman of the Indonesian KPU in a Closed Session

The Election Organizer Honorary Council (DKPP) is scheduled to hold a hearing to investigate alleged violations of the Election Organizer Code of Ethics (KEPP) carried out by the Chairman of the General Election Commission (KPU), Hasyim Asy’ari, on Wednesday, May 22, 2024. Case Number 90-PKE-DKPP/V/2024 filed a complaint against Hasyim, who allegedly prioritized personal interests and gave special treatment to a female member of the Overseas Election Committee (PPLN) in The Hague, Netherlands.

Apart from that, Hasyim is also suspected of having used power relations to approach and establish a relationship with the complainant, leading to allegations of sexual harassment. David Yama, secretary of the DKPP, said that the agenda for the trial will be to hear information from the parties, including complainants, defendants, witnesses, and related parties.

“The DKPP Secretariat has summoned all parties appropriately, namely five days before the examination session was held,” explained David (21/5).

He added that the DKPP had summoned the parties in accordance with the provisions of Article 22 paragraph (1) of DKPP Regulation Number 3 of 2017 concerning Procedure Guidelines for the Code of Ethics for Election Organizers as last amended by DKPP Regulation Number 1 of 2022. Apart from that, he also revealed that the trial would be held closed because it was related to immorality.

“The examination of the main allegations in the case related to morality will be held behind closed doors,” concluded David. []
