After releasing datatalk.asia, a platform that provides several features for data journalism, now (17/2) the Association for Elections and Democracy (Perludem), with support from USAID through the Regional Support for Elections and Political Transitions or RESPECT, released Asia-Pacific Journal of Elections and Democracy. The management of this international journal is a collaboration with the Djokosoetono Research Center (DRC), a research institute under the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia.

As an international journal, the Asia-Pacific Journal of Elections and Democracy is an English-language journal. This journal will be published every six months. Two people are believed to be the chief editor, namely Marcus Mietzner, a lecturer at the Australia National University, and Titi Anggraini, Member of the Perludem Supervisory Board.

In addition, five electoral and political figures sit on the Editorial Advisory Board, namely Topo Santoso, Professor of Criminal Law at the University of Indonesia (UI), Burhanuddin Muhtadi, lecturer at the Department of Political Science at the State Islamic University of Jakarta, Adhy Aman, representative of the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA), Patricia Rinwigati, lecturer at the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia, and Joel Mark Barredo, Director of the Strengthening Human Rights and Peace Research and Education Southeast Asia (SHAPE-SEA) Program.

At the online launch event, Chief of Party RESPECT, Joice Damayanti said that the Asia-Pacific Journal of Elections and Democracy is aimed at supporting and strengthening electoral literacy and democracy for the people of Asia Pacific. The hope is that the Asia-Pacific Journal of Elections and Democracy can become a forum for academics, election and democracy activists, and civil society in Asia Pacific to share scientific publications with everyone. This journal can be accessed free of charge.

“This journal is part of our small contribution and ongoing support to provide open access scientific publications, which can be utilized in advancing a democratic society,” said Joice.

The Asia-Pacific Journal of Elections and Democracy received support from the Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia, Edmon Makarim. Managing a journal is not easy. He hopes that this journal will have a long life, one of which is to get legal funding.

“Hopefully Perludem and DRC can focus on developing journals, because managing journals is not easy. In fact, very few journals can survive because managing a journal requires a strong commitment and continuous financial support,” said Edmon at the journal launch event.
