Evaluation on Jakarta Local Election 2017: KPU Imposes Six Administrative Sanctions

The Elections Commission (KPU) of Jakarta held a public evaluation on the 2017 Jakarta Local Election process at Aryaduta Hotel, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (07/25). According to a press release published by KPU, KPU has imposed six administrative sanctions to candidate number 1, the campaign team of candidate number 3, one government employee, and one member of the Election Voting Committee (KPPS).

For candidate number 1, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono and Sylviana Murni, KPU sent a written warning on November 5 2016 for promising voters subsidy money policy during electoral campaign on November 13th 2016.

Meanwhile, the campaign team for candidate number 3, Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga Uno, received three different warnings for three different violations. First, the campaign team used the logo of the NasDem Party during electoral campaign. According to the electoral regulation, candidate is not allowed to use the logo of political party which does not officially propose the candidate in the election.

Secondly, the campaign team held a social event where they provide free health service to citizens that may be construed as illicit bribe. Thirdly, the campaign team often used public facilities like mosques to do electoral campaigning.

One administrative sanction was imposed to Mr. Prasetyo Edi Marsudi, the Chairman of the Local Parliament of Jakarta, who decorated his house with stickers of candidate number 2, Basuka Tjahaja Purnama and Djarot Saiful Hidayat.

Lastly, KPU dismissed a KPPS member by the name of Susilowati who was caught selling cheap staple food packages during the quiet period.
