Themis Indonesia and the Indonesian Goddess of Justice Foundation submitted records of a series of ethical violations by the General Election Commission (KPU) during the 2024 general election to the Election Organizer Honorary Council (DKPP). These notes are intended to be taken into consideration by the DKPP in deciding cases of alleged sexual harassment committed by the Chairman of the KPU, Hasyim Asy’ari, against members of the Overseas General Election Committee (PPLN).
“The note lists several ethical violations that have been committed by KPU chairman Hasyim Asy’ari and other KPU members, such as in the case of the golden woman, ethical cases in factual verification of political parties, and other cases involving ethical violations of election organizers,” wrote Themis Indonesia in a written statement, Jakarta (22/5).
The moment the notes were handed over coincided with the trial for alleged sexual harassment by the chairman of the KPU. Themis Indonesia and the Dewi Justice Foundation hope that this note can be taken into consideration by the DKPP in imposing heavy sanctions in the form of dishonorable dismissal on Hasyim Asy’ari.
They assessed that due to the large number of violations, ethical sanctions, and fraud committed by the KPU, it was necessary to formulate a mechanism to prevent and improve the law enforcement process for violations committed by election organizers ahead of the 2024 regional elections. They emphasized that the DKPP needed to carry out its main duties and functions actively during the 2024 regional elections.
“DKPP together with Bawaslu must also be proactive in supervising every stage of elections and local elections carried out by the KPU, so that they comply with the provisions of laws and regulations and close the potential gaps for various forms of fraud,” stressed Themis Indonesia and the Indonesian Dewi Justice Foundation.
