KPU Will Make Improvements to Pilkada 2024

As a form of transparency and openness of election results data in the 2024 Regional Head Election (Pilkada), the General Election Commission (KPU) will continue to use the Vote Recapitulation Information System (Sirekap). A number of improvements will be made to cover Sirekap’s weaknesses in the 2024 elections.

“There will be many improvements. We learned a lot, because yesterday was the first time we used Sirekap for five elections at once. “For regional elections, the system is of course simpler,” said member of the Indonesian KPU, Betty Epsilon Idroos, at the discussion “Ensuring Information Openness and Handling Disinformation in the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections” in Jakarta (29/5).

The KPU claims to have carried out an evaluation of Sirekap, both internally and externally. 1.6 million accounts have been prepared, and the development of optical character recognition (OCR) technology in Sirekap is being reviewed.

“During the 2024 election, we will use a chat bot to accredit, so that only registered KPPS numbers can send photos to Sirekap. Well, the same goes for the regional elections. “So people can’t just send photos randomly,” explained Betty.

Betty predicts that Sirekap will perform better in the 2024 regional elections. The number of TPS in the Pilkada is less than in the 2024 election because the maximum number of voters per TPS in the Pilkada is 600. In the 2024 election, the maximum number of voters per TPS will be 300 people.

“So, the number of TPS will be depressed, so the number of KPPS who will send photos will not be as large as in the election,” he said.

Apart from improving Sirekap, the Indonesian KPU is also developing one election data map, which contains all electoral information in Indonesia. The development process has reached 70 percent. It is hoped that this data map will collect election information down to the polling station level. []
