Bawaslu Anticipates Potential Vulnerability in Jakarta Regional Election

The Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) said it had communicated with Polda Metro Jaya and regional governments regarding potential vulnerabilities in the Jakarta Pilkada. These anticipatory steps were taken based on Bawaslu’s mapping in the Election Vulnerability Map Information System (Siskapilu), which places Jakarta in first place in the Election Vulnerability Index (IKP).

“We took that from the history of the regional elections in Jakarta. “The Jakarta regional elections had a lot of problems yesterday, including the politicization of SARA, hokas, and also conflicts at the grass roots of the previous regional elections,” said Bawaslu Chairman Rahmat Bagja to journalists in the Menteng area of Central Jakarta (1/7).

Apart from that, Bagja said that the condition of Jakarta, which is undergoing a transition from capital city status to special region status, is also a concern. Moreover, Jakarta’s large population and dense geographic conditions need to take into account its vulnerability in the upcoming 2024 regional elections.

Based on the 2024 General Election and Simultaneous Election IKP with measures of socio-political dimensions, election implementation, contestation, and participation, Jakarta is a province in the high vulnerability category with an IKP score of 88.95. With a socio-political dimension score of 78.27, the election organizer dimension score reached 92.36, followed by the contestation dimension with a score of 96.09 and the participation dimension score of 87.01.

“So that needs to be taken into account properly to see, and that is one of the reasons why Jakarta is included in these four dimensions,” he explained.

Apart from that, Bagja also said that his party is currently coordinating with the General Election Commission (KPU) to update election data. He admitted that so far he had not encountered any significant obstacles in the process of updating voter data. []
