Bawaslu Reminds KPU to Adhere to Time for Recapitulation of Election Results

The Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) has warned the General Election Commission (KPU) to complete the recapitulation of the results of the vote tally at the national level for the 2024 election on time. Based on KPU Regulation (PKPU) Number 3 of 2022 concerning Stages and Schedule for the 2024 General Election, the recapitulation will be carried out no later than March 20, 2024.

“It should be finished. March 20 must be finished,” said Bawaslu Chair Rahmat Bagja in a discussion entitled “Guiding the Vote Count Recapitulation” held by the West Merdeka Forum 9, Jakarta (13/3).

Bagja explained that based on the rules, if the national vote recapitulation process is not completed on time, the Indonesian KPU can be punished for violating the rules of the Election Law. However, Bagja understands that the recapitulation of votes at the provincial level has passed the deadline, and due to compelling circumstances, problems at the district or city level are also not according to the schedule they should be.

“In the future, there must be mitigation for this; don’t let the good tiered recapitulation system become problematic due to delays and unresolved incidents at the lower to upper levels,” he hoped.

For information, with a total of 204,807,222 Permanent Voter Lists (DPT), the vote recapitulation was carried out from February 15 to March 20, 2024. In its implementation, the vote recapitulation involved Polling Place (TPS) officers, the District Election Committee (PPK), and witnesses from the candidates. legislature or political party.

Meanwhile, according to the Deputy for Domestic Political Coordination at the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs (Kemko Polhukam), Heri Wiranto, his party will ensure the recapitulation process until the election is finished by ensuring the overall security situation. To ensure this continues, the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs has carried out monitoring in stages with 19 other ministries, including the KPU, Bawaslu, and the Election Organizer Honorary Council (DKPP).

“In general, we will always monitor it; nationally, it is relatively well maintained and conducive. Yes, there are problems that are so long and big, and of course there are things that need to be evaluated. “Hopefully this can be resolved and the KPU can also carry it out well,” explained Heri. []
