The Association for Elections and Democracy (Perludem) urges members of the Commission II of Parliament to immediately conduct fit and proper test on the candidates for the new members of Election Commission (KPU) and Election Monitoring Body (Bawaslu) for the 2017-2022 period. The term of office for the current members of KPU and Bawaslu will end on April 12th 2017, less than 34 days from today.
“Despite the deadline, members of Commission II haven’t conduct the needed fit and proper test. Members of Commission II are way too slow: president and members of Parliament have already submitted the list of selected candidates since February,” says the Executive Director of Perludem, Titi Anggraini, to Rumah Pemilu (03/10).
Titi says, successful succession within KPU and Bawaslu is one of the keys for the government to run a free and fair national election in 2019. Therefore, members of Commission II should immediately conduct the fit and proper test.
“What are they waiting for? Technically speaking, they do not have anything to hold them,” says Titi.
