The General Election Commission (KPU) provides an explanation regarding the progress of voting and vote counting in the 2024 Elections. KPU Chair, Hasyim Asy’ari, stated that there are 668 polling stations (TPS) potentially requiring delayed voting. This is due to flooding, shortage of ballot papers, and disruptions at the polling stations.
“There are 668 TPS in 5 regencies/cities across 4 provinces potentially requiring delayed voting. Specifically, in Demak, there are 108 TPS; in Batam, 8 TPS due to ballot paper shortages; in Paniai Regency, 92 TPS; in Puncak Jaya Regency, 456 TPS; and in Jayawijaya Regency, 4 TPS due to polling station disturbances,” said Hasyim during a press conference at the KPU Office, Jakarta, Wednesday evening (2/14).
According to Hasyim, based on Articles 110 and 111 of the Election Commission Regulation Number 25 of 2023 regarding Voting and Vote Counting in Elections, delayed voting is valid to be conducted, considering that several areas experienced flooding and technical constraints during the voting process. Based on reports and observations until February 14 at 6:00 PM WIB, ballot mix-ups occurred in 388 TPS scattered across 79 regencies/cities in 26 provinces.
Additionally, Hasyim also explained that the election vote counting utilizes the Recapitulation Information System (Sirekap) by leveraging data and images of Form C results documents that have been photographed and uploaded by the Polling Station Committees (KPPS). The recapitulation process is conducted in stages from the District Election Committee (PPK) or Overseas Election Committee (PPLN) to the next level up to the Election Commission of Indonesia (KPU RI).
“After several hours since the polling stations were closed, based on reports until 6:45 PM WIB, the Polling Station Committees (KPPS) have submitted data through Sirekap totaling 46,574 TPS, or approximately 5.65% of the election vote counting results both domestically and abroad,” he explained.
He conveyed that the Form C results from each polling station will continue to be uploaded on Sirekap and will also be accessible and downloadable by anyone accessing that information. According to him, if there are indications of vote manipulation, comparative data can be tracked and found through Sirekap. []
