KPU Will Use Sirekap in 2024 Regional Elections

The General Election Commission (KPU) will use the Recapitulation Information System (Sirekap) in the upcoming 2024 simultaneous regional elections. Even though there are problems with the 2024 presidential election, the KPU will ensure that Sirekap operates well in processing and displaying the 2024 regional election data.

“We will use Sirekap for the regional elections, of course with improvements. “We learned from the 2024 election, and we will improve it in the 2024 regional election,” said KPU Commissioner Betty Epsilon Idroos in a discussion entitled “Ensuring Information Openness and Handling Disinformation in the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Election” at the Indonesian Open Government National Secretariat (Setnas OGI), Central Jakarta (5/29).

Betty said there were a number of improvements in Sirekap, and the KPU had identified a number of problems that could be fixed. For example, the process of converting data from numeric at each polling station (TPS) to tables in Sirekap. According to him, these improvement efforts are the KPU’s efforts to carry out the election.

“But please underline that the sirekap weakness was discovered because of the sirekap itself; ladies and gentlemen also discovered that there was a discrepancy in C. We will correct the results, especially when displaying data from numerical to tabular data,” he added.

Meanwhile, this is related to the lack of optimal optical character recognition (OCR) technology. Betty promised to fix these various problems. He said that his party had learned a lot and that the KPU’s technical division would make improvements to Sirekap.

Apart from improvements to the calculation system, Sirekap will also improve the data entry system. In the future, only certified parties will be able to enter election result data into Sirekap. This certification will be given to the management of the government as well as the public, who are the administrators of the regional elections.

“Actually, there is already certification (for the government), but later we will layer it with certification from other public parties,” said Betty in a further statement.

For information, voting for the 2024 regional elections will be held on November 27, 2024, while registration of candidate pairs will begin on August 27, 2024. The 2024 regional elections will be held in 545 regions, consisting of 415 districts and 93 cities in 37 provinces. []
