The Result of Local Election in Banten and West Sulawesi Are Being Sued to the Constitutional Court

The local election result in two electoral areas, Banten and West Sulawesi, are being sued to the Constitutional Court (MK). The losing candidate from both areas, Rano Karno from Banten and Suhardi Duka from West Sulawesi, say that they were cheated. The votes margin between the winning and losing candidate in both areas is rather slim. In Banten, the margin is 1,86 percent while in West Sulawesi it is only 0,75 percent.

The Chief of campaign team of Rano Karno, Ahmad Basarah, says that he and his team have already submit a lawsuit to MK against the election result on February 28 2017 because the Election Commission (KPU) and Election Monitoring Body (Bawaslu) did not properly handling all reports regarding violations and undue practices committed by the winning candidate.

“In Serang, the campaign team of Wahidin Halim (the winning candidate) committed structured, systematic, and massive money politics.In Tangerang, KPU and Bawaslu refused to compare the voting data collected by our team and the actual votes data by KPU,” says Basarah on the press release (01/28).

In West Sulawesi, the campaign team of Suhardi Duka has hired twenty lawyers, one of them is the famous lawyer Yusril Ihza Mahendra, to handle the legal process of the lawsuit.

“The vote margin is really slim. I’m sure we can win this case. We have proofs that we will reveal in the court,” says Kalma Katta, the deputy governor candidate of Suhardi Duka in Mamuju, West Sulawesi (02/27).

Besides Rano Karno and Suhardi Duka, the losing candidate in Gorontalo local election, Hana Hasanah Fadel, also sues the election result to MK. Hana says the winning candidate, Rusli Habibie, is not eligible to participate because of administrative reason. The vote margin between Hana and Rusli is 25,86 percent.
