Invalid Votes in the 2024 Presidential Election 2.49 Percent

Looking at the vote recapitulation data for the Presidential Election published by the Indonesian General Election Commission (KPU) via the infopemilu.kpu.go.id page, it was found that the level of invalid votes in the 2024 Presidential Election (Pilpres) was 2.49 percent of the total valid votes and not valid nationally. However, this figure does not include a recapitulation of results in Central Papua Province and abroad because the data is not yet available. The total number of invalid votes was 4,146,656.

From existing data, Papua is the province with the highest rate of invalid votes, namely 8.69 percent. The second highest is South Kalimantan, with 4.68 percent. Three other provinces with invalid votes above 3 percent were East Java (3.37), Bangka Belitung Islands (3.37), and South Sumatra (3.35).

Meanwhile, in two provinces, the percentage of invalid votes did not exceed 1 percent. The two provinces are the Papua Mountains and North Sulawesi.

The number of invalid votes in the 2024 presidential election is higher than in the 2019 presidential election. At that time, invalid votes were 3,754,905, or 2.37 percent of the total valid and invalid votes.

In fact, the voter participation rate in the 2024 presidential election is higher than the 2019 presidential election. The voter participation rate in the 2024 presidential election was 83.58 percent, while in the 2019 presidential election it was 81.97 percent. This participation rate is the highest since the 2004 presidential election. []
